Kalon 656 Entry Short

"Leith?" came the small voice. "I, um, don't think this is a good idea."
Jaidev padded behind the older Kalon, shaking like a leaf. Sure, in the beginning he had wanted to go see the swamp, but now that he saw the forest it was located in, he was having doubts. He clutched his satchel tightly, knowing it was his only defense against any attack. Leith chuckled.
"Don't be so nervous." she told him. "Once we get there, I promise the herb you need is there."
Jaidev hoped she was right. He needed chervil for his father's ranch, and had been told that the swamp had a good supply of the plant.
He shivered; Jaidev was beginning to regret not bringing a jacket. He glanced up at Leith.
"Are we close now?" he asked, voice trembling almost as much as he was.
"Yup! It's just past those bushes." Leith pointed, and Jaidev looked over to where she was pointing. Through the bushes, he could see the moss-covered trees of the swamp. The two pushed their way through the bushes, and were soon standing in front of the swamp. The water was filled with green algae, and everything around it was covered in thick moss. The whole scene looked incredibly eerie in the dim moonlight.
"Go get your chervil, then."
Jaidev jumped, but did as he was told. Soon he had potted a good sized plant. He stood up, clutching the pot tightly. He walked back to Leith, but she stopped him.
"Don't move."
Confused, the little Kalon turned to see what she was looking at. A huge dragon was towering over Leith. Leith had drawn her sword, and looked ready for a fight. She took a few steps towards Jaidev, never taking her eyes off of the beast, then she grabbed Jaidev's wrist. She screamed for him to run, and the dragon launched itself at the Kalons.
Jaidev let out a scream and bolted. His satchel swung about wildly, but he clutched the chervil tightly. He didn't want to drop it, not after trekking all day to find it. He was scared to look back, but occasionally Leith fell behind some to slash at the dragon. It roared angrily each time, but eventually, Jaidev could see his father's ranch on the horizon.
"Come on!"
He hopped the fence, and Leith followed. The dragon smashed through the fence as though it was made of sticks, and Jaidev flinched. His father would not be pleased that the fence had been broken. They kept running until they came to a barn. Jaidev suddenly had an idea, and he grabbed Leith's hand and pulled her into the open barn. Slamming the door shut, the two Kalons hid. They could hear the dragon's heavy breathing outside. They held their breath, and after a few minutes, they heard the beast stomping angrily back into the forest. Jaidev let out a sigh of relief, and Leith shot him a grin.
"Let's never do that again." Leith chuckled.
